Problem
Standard lightsaber and LED light strips typically use 5050 IC RGB LEDs with limited color range, resulting in less saturated and washed-out appearances.
AniPixel is a personal project started in June 2023, addressing the need for higher quality LED lightsaber blades in the market. This innovative design uses full spectrum LEDs to create more saturated and vibrant colors across the entire visible spectrum.

Standard lightsaber and LED light strips typically use 5050 IC RGB LEDs with limited color range, resulting in less saturated and washed-out appearances.
By increasing the saturation and using different color diodes in LED manufacturing, AniPixel creates a product with deeper blues and reds, resulting in more saturated colors across the entire spectrum.

Comparison of AniPixel colors vs standard RGB LED colors
The project involved changing the wavelengths of the red and blue diodes. Standard RGB LEDs use red (620-625nm), green (520-525nm), and blue (465-470nm). AniPixel uses red (655-660nm) and blue (450-455nm) for a wider color range.
The project involved collaborating with a PCB designer, LED manufacturer, and PCB fabricator. Despite initial challenges with LED orientation in the first prototype, the team successfully troubleshot and corrected the design.

Custom PCB design for the AniPixel lightsaber blade
The research and prototyping phase is complete, with only minor changes needed in the production design files. Full product production is underway and expected to be completed within the next couple of months.
